How you and your Pet Can De-Stress DURING THE WANING DAYS OF THE PANDEMIC
Pets can tell it when their care givers are stressed or relaxed
Pets sense your tension and even increased levels perspiration. For instance, let’s say you are now working from home, and your pets are studying from home too. Also, the park you take your pet for walks gets closed. And since our furry friends are known to follow a particular pattern. They know when you usually take walks and play and find it hard to cope with the changes and hence get stressed. Moreover, you may notice your pet needs a lot of attention, for example, excess rubbing, wanting to stretch or bite, that is an indication that the pet stressed.
Here are ways you and your pet can employ to de-stress
Maintain a daily routine
For example, take your dog out at roughly the same time each day.
Engage your furry friends in play
Make sure you come up with interactive games or plays for you and your pets. The game should involve the pets’ mental activity. Take advantage of the situation and teach them some obedience tricks. For example, picking up sticks, sit down or stand up. Instruct them to leave the room. There are lots of games on the internet and YouTube that you can play with your pets. Engage your pets in the games you enjoy doing together like hide and seek.
Feeding
Feed your pet with the same amounts of foods each day. Reducing/increasing the food portion may cause an upset stomach; the same may happen when you increase the food portions. Also, avoid changing the kind of food you have been giving your cat or dog during this crisis because it will affect them.
Breathe
You may not know this, but your pet understands your body language. When you are with your pets, learn to control your breathe to help you and your cherished pets calm down. Do yoga, eat balanced meals, meditate, and also stretch.
Learn to rub your pets’ ears
There is something called ‘ear slides’. When rubbing their ears, you are gently reaching the acupressure points that incorporate the whole bodies behaviors, for example, stress and any other uncomfortable action.
Take time over TV
Reduce your TV time, reading or listening to new updates concerning the pandemic. Moreover, reducing your social media time will help de-stress.
Exercise
Ensure you take good care of your body by stretching and meditation. Make sure you eat healthy and balanced foods.
Unwind
Take time to do some indoor activities that you find fun, maybe, yoga or dancing. These are some activities that will help you cope with the current social restrictions and stay positive.
