HOW TO KEEP YOUR PETS WARM DURING WINTER
Our pets feel the chill on a winter morning just like we do. While people may put on a sweater or sit at the front of a fireplace, our pets require assistance, mainly if they are outdoor dogs or cats.
Now, how can we protect our fur babies warm and safe during the winter? To make it easier for you to find out, we’ve compiled a list of things you should do to keep your pets warm during the winter season.
- GROOMING UNDER WINTER SEASON
Our cats’ and dogs’ fur are their primary source of warmth. Though we will be tempted to let their hair become longer to keep them warm during the winter, a season grooming approach is essential. Frequent grooming will not only make your pets comfy, but it will also help to avoid skin disorders, matting, and shedding. Since winter is usually moist and wet, with dirt, puddles, and damp grass, our outdoor pets are more susceptible to filthy fur, tangles, and matting. Furthermore, note that if you’re bathing your dog, it’s better to clean them indoors with warm water and completely dry them off with a warm towel before allowing them back outdoors.
- PET SHELTER AND COMFORTABLE BEDDING
Keeping your dog or cat indoors during the wintertime is unquestionably preferable; yet, if your dog or cat is mainly an outdoor pet, adjusting their sleep patterns might be challenging. Any insulated shelter, such as a kennel or enclosed space for your dog or cat, would be appreciated whenever the cold morning approaches, and they will have a comfy bed to help them escape the cold. In addition to providing a warm area to sleep away from breezes, lifting their bed from cold flooring will help warm them up and avoid moisture from soaking into their covers. Probably add additional warm, comfortable bedding, including such blankets and pillows, or even warmed objects, like microwavable heat cushions, for them to sleep with.
- WINTER PET CLOTHING
Nothing makes us happier than seeing a puppy or kitten dressed up in a wonderfully adorable sweater. They often provide warmth, especially for our fur babies. If you want to put a jacket on your pet, make sure they have enough room to breathe, that the coat isn’t too tight, and that there are no dangling strings or buttons that can be consumed.
- CHECK YOUR PET’S BEHAVIOR IN WINTER
If your pet is shaking or trembling, they indeed feel the cold. And they also might snuggle into warm areas such as mattresses and sofas. Dogs and cats will prefer lying on the floor in favor of warm flooring and rugs. Take caution if your pet enjoys being near heaters or fires; if they ever go too close or feel sleepy, their skin might dry out or even burn.
- ADJUSTMENTS ON FEEDING
You may notice that our pets are hungrier during the winter time because they require more energy to keep warm. Those extra calories are necessary to retain their body temperature. Some breeds may demand additional feeding during the winter. Modifying their eating pattern if they’re not exercising as much during winter is also essential to minimize excess winter weight. If you become concerned that you are overfeeding your pet, always consult with your veterinarian for guidance on how much you should be feeding them.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Just on time! We are at the beginning of the winter season, so you should certainly consider how you would manage your pet’s daily needs for them to be secure and comfortable. Keep in mind that you must consider these tips and apply them to your pets. Have a wonderful winter season for you and your fur baby!
